Chicago City Breaks
There are so many attractions packed in these two great American cities it is hard to know where to start.
The "Windy City" was all but demolished by the Great Fire of 1871, but re-emerged as a breathtakingly beautiful, ultra-modern city that boasts one of the world's most spectacular skylines and one of its tallest buildings - the 110-storey Sears Tower. In total it has 29 miles of lakeshore frontage and a huge variety of attractions ranging from the masterpieces of its various museums to colourful sidewalk art exhibitions. Music is a big part of the city with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the star studded performances of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Joffrey Ballet Company and last but certainly not least the massive jazz and blues scene.
When planning your trip make sure you include an extra suitcase as Chicago is a shoppers paradise. Start your shopaholic's safari on centrally located and elegant Michigan Avenue. The Magnificent Mile houses some 240 glittering shops and stores including plus Bloomingdale's and Tiffany's. The spectacular cloud-piercing skyscrapers and syncopated lifestyle of Chicago certainly makes it a big, bold and beautiful city.
