Trans Canada by Rail

This rail journey invites you to travel in luxury from Toronto’s urban excitement, through a spellbinding diversity of landscapes to Vancouver, a metropolitan gem on the Pacific coast. Explore cosmopolitan Toronto before boarding VIA Rail’s famous "Canadian" travelling west through the lake regions of Manitoba and the grain fields of Saskatchewan. Once in Alberta, you will embark on a tour of the Canadian Rockies, culminating in a visit to the Columbia Icefield. Your journey continues as you board the Rocky Mountaineer and enjoy daylight train travel through some of the most spectacular areas in Western Canada en route to Vancouver. A sightseeing tour of Vancouver, as well as day trips to Niagara Falls and Victoria are sure to enhance your experience.

Itinerary

Toronto

Arrive at Toronto’s International Airport and transfer independently to your downtown hotel. Pick up your information kit at the front desk upon check-in. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Canada’s commercial and cultural centre. Overnight in Toronto.

Toronto

This morning will feature a city tour of Toronto, including the downtown financial and shopping districts, Old and New City Hall, Queen’s Park with the Ontario Legislative Buildings, the University of Toronto campus, the residential areas, the Eaton’s Center, Chinatown and the Harbourfront. A visit to the observation deck of the CN Tower can be made on an optional basis. The afternoon is at leisure for individual exploration of the city or shopping. Overnight in Toronto.

Niagara Falls Excursion

Leaving Toronto this morning, the route will be through Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton to the picturesque and historic village of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Some time will be spent in Niagara-on-the-Lake and then the journey will continue along the scenic Niagara Parkway to Niagara Falls. Here, there is sufficient time to walk alongside the Falls for pictures and to perhaps take in one or two of the attractions, such as the boat ride on the Hornblower Niagara Cruises - VIP Boat Tour, which sails close to the thundering waterfalls, on an optional basis. In the early evening, return to Toronto, via the most direct route. Overnight in Toronto

VIA Rail (The Canadian)

These three days will be spent on the train on the westward journey, travelling through the Prairie provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Both these provinces are the major producers of wheat in Canada. Overnights on the train.

VIA Rail (The Canadian) - Jasper National Park

In the early hours, the train trip will enter the province of Alberta with a stop in Edmonton, before continuing to Jasper, where arrival will be in the early morning. Upon arrival in Jasper, transfer to the hotel for a 1 night stay. In the afternoon tour in Jasper National Park, including Pyramid and Patricia Lake, the Jasper town site, with Jasper, the bear, Medicine Lake, the Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake for an “optional” cruise to Spirit Island. Overnight in Jasper.

Jasper National Park - Banff National Park

A spectacular day, travelling south along the Icefields Parkway, through a wealth of breathtaking scenery with a stop at the Columbia Icefields for an “optional” ride on giant snocoach across the Athabasca Glacier. Continue to Banff for a 2 nights stay, with a stop at Peyto Lake en route.

Banff National Park

A morning sightseeing tour of Banff National Park, including the town site, Bow Falls, Tunnel Mountain, a spectacular view of the Banff Springs Hotel, Johnston Canyon, Moraine Lake and a visit to the world famous Lake Louise. There will be some free time in the afternoon, to explore Banff on an individual basis. Overnight in Banff.

Banff National Park - Vernon

Today, the journey will be through Yoho and Glacier National Parks, travelling through the narrow Kicking Horse Canyon and the mighty Rogers Pass. En route, a stop will be made at Emerald Lake and the Spiral Tunnels. Overnight in Vernon.

Vernon - Vancouver

Travel through the rich and fertile Okanagan valley, famous for its orchards and vineyards and then through the Fraser River Valley into Vancouver for a 3 nights stay.

Vancouver

A morning sightseeing tour of Vancouver, including such highlights as Stanley Park, English Bay, Gastown, Chinatown, the University of British Columbia and much more. The remainder of the day is at leisure for individual exploration. Overnight in Vancouver.

Vancouver with optional full day excursion to Victoria

The entire day is at leisure in Vancouver, or enjoy an optional day excursion by ferry to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. See the legislative buildings, Beacon Hill Park, the harbour area and many other beautiful highlights before returning by ferry to Vancouver. Overnight in Vancouver.

Vancouver & Home

The day is at leisure until transfer to Vancouver International Airport for the return flight.
