Our Destination of the Month for July is ALABAMA. Throughout the month, across our social media channels, we will be showcasing some of the best of the Southern state that’s had a front row seat to America’s civil rights battle and the birth of soul music and food.

With a Mardi Gras celebration that predates New Orleans, ALABAMA has a great reputation for celebrating and its musical legacy certainly lives up to the challenge, playing a key role in the careers of music icons like Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan. If all that singing and dancing means you need a little refreshment, explore the state’s BBQ, craft beer and wine trails.

ALABAMA has had a front row seat to America’s Civil Rights movement since the beginning. It is the place from where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the protest to end segregation and where Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white man in 1955. It is also the home of the Clotilda slave ship, discovered in 2019.

To get back to nature, make sure to explore ALABAMA’s white sand beaches and hike, kayak and cycle in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.
